"Vivisect" is the culmination of my work in Narrative Short Production at UConn. I wrote, directed, produced, and edited the film. This is the most involved production I have put together at this point in my filmmaking career.
It was created to explore natural predator-prey dynamics as well as primal fight or flight instincts. While Margaret is going through legitimate struggles, she has lived a very comfortable life, and I wanted to push her to her limit. First, Addie is a temptation; then, a threat. Addie helps Margaret find herself at the boundary of her humanity.
I also used this project as an opportunity to feature two complex female characters. I like to showcase women pushing boundaries, being villains, getting bloody. Beyond the characters, I am proud to say that the cast and crew was entirely made up of women.
Originally, I planned to tell this story in a forest. Because of location, budget, and effects limitations, the screenplay underwent a complete rewrite to reframe it within the constraints of a school setting. This film was then put together with no budget and filmed entirely over the course of two nights. Because of this, we had to get creative to find ways to bring this film to life. This also meant our small crew of four people had to wear many hats. Ultimately, we were able to put together a film I couldn’t be prouder of.
"Vivisect" is not currently available for public viewing.
