This was an assignment for my Spring 2025 Narrative Short Production Class. This was a practice in directing as the class was assigned scenes we did not write ourselves and were told to shoot it. My partner for the project, Hailey Madramootoo and I worked together to break down the script and create our shot list. I took on more of a director/producer role in this project by securing a cast, a location, props, and costumes, as well as by guiding the actors' performances to create the effect we wanted. Hailey served as our DP and did the bulk of the editing. Together, we made a great team and created something we are very proud of.
One challenge we faced for this project was that the script felt like it would be best told as a period piece. When we read through it for the first time, the language and content felt old very old fashioned, so we could really only see it come to life properly if we set it in the early 1900s. Having no budget and limited time made the aesthetic difficult to achieve on a modern college campus. Our props and costumes came from the cast and crew's closets and second hand stores. This experience really helped us get practice in ingenuity and resourcefulness.
