This was my final project for my class, Design Lab I. I created an animated short accompanied by a corresponding illustrated comic page. The illustration took place by hand on Adobe Photoshop, and the subsequent animation was brought to life within Adobe After Effects.
The project prompt tasked us with creating a piece inspired by a "six-word memoir" encapsulating our personal journey. My chosen memoir, "Not there, darling, but going somewhere," serves as a guiding reminder of life's ongoing trajectory and my narrative in progress.
Venturing into my imagination, I brought life into characters that had never gotten the chance to go beyond my imagination. Each character, endowed with unique qualities, holds a special place in my life as they each have something I look up to. Within the completed project, I gave them each a snapshot, maybe a second, of their greater stories.
The figures were all based off of reference images that I took of some of my friends, listed in the credits of the final video. Each scene and figure has certain aspects that could be manipulated in After Effects, and the rest of the frame is static, creating the look of a comic book or graphic novel that I was aiming for.
In conjunction with the animated exploration, I created a comic book page by compiling still images from each scene. This static representation serves as a visual chronicle, offering viewers a snapshot into the diverse worlds inhabited by these characters.
Far from a mere artistic endeavor, this project epitomizes the convergence of artistry and technology. It is a deliberate effort to convey the subtleties of an ongoing creative journey. It beckons viewers into a realm where the unfolding narrative of my creative world manifests with each frame.
